#IAmGalen: Jason Fuller, MEDITECH Rules Analyst

What originally drew you to Galen/what was your first impression?

I saw an ENGINUITY presentation at MUSE a few years ago demonstrating TPN functionality and pop-up driven mental health assessment. I was impressed with the amount of effort and polish that went into the builds, as well as by how much simpler this made everything. The approach to these workflows was one that inspired me to pursue an opportunity at Galen.

What was your background prior to joining Galen?

I’d worked as a pharmacy technician for five years, then moved into third party software support for hospitals around the country. Then I became an applications analyst at my local hospital for a few years, before finally getting the opportunity to work at Galen.

When did you join Galen, and what do you do here?

I’ve been with Galen since November 2019 and work on our MEDITECH/ENGINUITY offerings.

What are you looking forward to as we continue to grow as a company?

I look forward to continuing to expand our MEDITECH offering, with the goal of improving the end user experience with the product. It can be challenging to code clinical decision support in MEDITECH, and I hope to unlock functionality that makes the product more intuitive, reducing clicks, and improving care.

What is something awesome you or your team has accomplished lately?

We’ve expanded our ENGINUITY eCalcs library of offerings through MEDITECH modules that can be employed  in patient care. We also developed the integrated SOFA score calculator to assist with the COVID-19 pandemic.

What has been most unexpected about working here?

Two things: How relaxed everyone is, and how talented they are. You’re trusted to do your part, and you can be confident that they’ll do theirs.

What does your job entail, and what is the one thing you hope to do in this role?

I work directly with healthcare IT teams around the country to define needs and develop solutions within the Meditech EHR software. There’s an optimal solution for everything, and my job is to find it and implement it. I hope to improve healthcare around the country, while reducing user stress at the same time.

What does your day-to-day job involve and why are you passionate about it?

Every day can be different – it all depends on client requests. Sometimes there’s an urgent need for something and we’ll rush to develop it, and other times the pace slows, and we work on lower priority projects. It never seems to be the same thing twice. What we build can be deployed to other MEDITECH clients, allowing for enhanced and improved functionality.
