This time of year is symbolic for the season of giving. Giving back to our communities is very important to Galen. We encourage each employee to look for ways to give back to the people and community around them.
To aid in this, every employee can spend 4 hours per quarter to pursue a volunteer activity that is close to their heart. It’s time that the company offers without team members having to take PTO.
In addition to this, during the holiday season, each office partners with a non-profit to make a company wide effort to give back to those in need. Below are some initiatives that Galeneers are participating in this season:
Boston’s Toys for Tots
Our Boston office donated to Boston’s Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. They collected and donated toys for children ages 0 to 10.
Burlington’s Warm Mitten Tree & COTS Daystation
Our Burlington office decided to create a Warm Mitten Tree, where employees donate warm clothes for the winter (mittens, scarves, hats, coats, socks, boots). The clothing goes to families in who are struggling to make ends meets. The donations will be split between the Lund Center and COTS. Both organizations are Vermont-based and serve the local community and offer family service support. The Burlington office also spent a day preparing and serving lunch at the COTS Daystation which is a daytime drop-in shelter that serves as a refuge for homeless individuals and offers various services.
Chicago’s Brown Health Mission & Coat Drive:
Our Chicago office collected clothing and household items to donate to the Brown Elephant Resale Shops. All proceeds made from reselling donated items go to the Howard Brown Health mission which provides health, wellness, and social services to the LGBT community in need. They also collected coats to give to the Douglas Park Advisory Council and Riot Fest Coat Drive.
We also had remote employees giving back by participating in fundraisers like the 5th Annual Toy Drive for kids in San Antonio. They bought and donated sports equipment to give to the charity.
