#IAmGalen: Tessa Prince, Technical Consultant

What was your background prior to joining Galen?

I’ve been working in Healthcare Information Technology for my entire career. Prior to joining Galen, I worked for two different healthcare organizations in Maine; as a Network and Systems Technician, then as a Clinical Applications Analyst. I also have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics, and an associate degree in Computer Technology.

What originally drew you to Galen/what was your first impression?

With a previous employer, I received Allscripts TouchWorks Analytics (TWEHR Reporting) training from Galen. It was a great learning experience. After the training, my previous employer contracted Galen to help get me started writing some reports. It was a pleasure to work with Galen. They gave me the foundation I needed to be successful with Allscripts report writing. I had such a good first impression that I told myself “I’m going to work for Galen someday”. Five years later, when it was time for me to pursue other job opportunities so I could continue to grow in my career, I came across a job opening at Galen. And with the blessing of my previous employer, I made the move to Galen!

What does your job entail, and what is the one thing you hope to do in this role?

Right now, I’m working mostly with data conversions/migrations. In this role, I hope to continue to expand my knowledge of EHRs and help design ways to make data migrations more efficient.

Please tell us about your experience in working with EHRs.

I have extensive experience with Allscripts TouchWorks; including clinical analysis, design, build, training, support, Meaningful Use implementation, systems administration, and a whole lot of report writing! I’ve also worked with MEDITECH Magic and eClinicalWorks, mainly with systems and server administration. Prior to joining Galen, I also had some experience working with Centricity and Cerner. With Galen, I’ve been exposed to even more EHRs including Athena and NextGen…and the list keeps growing!

What do you like about the culture here?

Galen has a culture which is so much different from any place I’ve ever worked! Everyone is so intelligent, and we make each other stronger by sharing knowledge and ideas with each other. I work remotely and have always felt included in the team. I’ve also had the pleasure of working in the office with some of the Galen team and got to take part in a awesome in-office culture which includes making work fun while remaining extremely productive!
