What was your background prior to joining Galen?
I have been working in healthcare for over 28 years. I originally started as a Computer Operations Manager at a large OB/GYN group in Poughkeepsie. It was there that I had my first introduction to EHRs, as I served as the IT manager, part of a core team tasked with building, implementing and training a 200+ staff on Allscripts Touchworks, PM and Document Manager. Through the years my role has expanded to implementation and support of practice management systems and electronic health records, as well as custom report writing.
What originally drew you to Galen/what was you first impression?
My first contact with Galen was during the implementation of Allscripts Touchworks at an orthopedic practice. Galen was highly recommended, and the reasons why quickly became evident. We encountered numerous obstacles during our conversion and implementation. Galen’s experience, support and recommendations were key differentiators that allowed us to meet our timelines. When working at subsequent organizations Galen was always the ‘Go-to’ consulting firm for training, building interfaces or implementation of new technologies.
What has been most unexpected about working here?
The sense of community and team is one of our cornerstones. Everyone within the company is available to assist and do whatever is necessary to ensure success on projects and client satisfaction, even if the assistance is needed in the middle of the night!
What does your job entail, and what is the one thing you hope to do in this role?
As a consultant at Galen, the role can change depending on the project. However, one thing that clients often express is that EHRs and Practice Management Systems are a necessary but unwelcomed guest in their organization. While maintenance and implementation of these systems often pose challenges, it is also an opportunity to review current workflows and increase efficiency through optimization. I enjoy collaborating with clients to leverage their systems in new and impactful ways.
