Last Year was a big year for me at Galen. Not only was I able to participate in some very challenging projects, I was also awarded MVP. Besides the prestige that accompanies the award I’m also able to choose any healthcare-related conference to attend.

This year, I’ve chosen to attend HIMSS17 in Orlando, FL. HIMSS is one of the largest conferences in healthcare. I’ve attended once in the past when working for a medium sized health system based out of Michigan. The HIMSS conference showcases some of the latest technology in the healthcare space and has a number of valuable sessions demonstrating real world difficulties and lessons learned.

My primary reasons for attending HIMSS17 is to see what technologies are on the horizon and to learn more about the issues health systems are facing as we try to improve healthcare delivery. I like challenges, and HIMSS presents a unique opportunity to see what seemingly insurmountable problems healthcare systems are facing. I’m most interested in seeing where opportunities lie in data management and population health compared to where the industry was just a few short years ago.

Through my work at Galen, I have helped several clients tackle issues related to quality reporting, data aggregation, data migrations and custom application integration to improve workflows and the standard of care. I hope to not only see what’s next, but what struggles exist today.

It’s my hope that I’ll be able to meet with clients we are currently assisting and meet new people during the networking portions. I really enjoy hearing about the challenges people are facing, even if it’s not an area we specialize in. If you get a chance, seek me out! Galen’s Booth is #4448.
