#IAmGalen: Laura Gold, Senior Consultant

lauragoldWhat was your background prior to joining Galen, and what made you join us?

I was working for large Health System holding a variety of responsibilities focusing on needs in an ambulatory care setting.  During my time there I was part of the team responsible for assisting newly acquired ambulatory care practices transition from paper charts to electronic healthcare records.

Why Galen? I came to know Galen as a client and always admired the high level of excellence Galen provided as well as being impressed with how willing they were to share their knowledge and expertise with clients. When it was time for a change, I knew I wanted to be part of a company that encouraged learning, knowledge and professional growth, Galen was my first call.

What does your day-to-day job involve?

In many ways, my day to day is probably just like yours… meetings, conference calls, responding to email, and making deadlines. As a consultant, I have the opportunity to focus specifically on my client’s unique needs and goals. I appreciate the varied nature of the work and the challenges of being engaged with a diverse client base. I also enjoy the opportunity to tackle challenges from the different projects and clients that we work with.

What’s the one thing you hope to achieve in your role?

I’m a big advocate of the adage: “Work smarter not harder.” Being able to assist our clients to find workable, efficient solutions to the challenges that face them is a great passion and driving force for me.

Galen’s culture is pretty unique – what’s your favorite aspect of it?

For me, who I work with has always been more important than what I do.  Galeneers are a unique breed. I was drawn to their community spirit and heart for excellence.  I truly enjoy being part of an organization that values and recognizes that their people are their greatest asset.  The company trip is pretty awesome too.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from working at Galen?

Don’t be afraid to ask the hard questions, don’t be afraid to ask the seemingly stupid ones either.  We learn from one another. People here are wickedly smart, caring, funny and hard working.  It is a joy and a privilege to be among their ranks.
