#IAmGalen: Joe Nyiri, Software Engineer

JoeNyiriWhat was your background prior to joining Galen, and what made you join us?

I started off working directly with physicians on the nursing floors, in the Emergency Department, in the Intensive Care Unit, and also in Health Information Management over the course of several years across a couple different positions at a hospital in upstate New York. I then worked at a small medical transcription company as an IT Support Technician for a little over three years. I was looking to move on, and I saw a posting for Galen. During my interview, I met a good portion of the team I’d be working with, and it seemed like a good fit for me.

What team did you join at Galen and what does that team do?

I initially joined Galen on the Upgrades team as an Upgrade Technician. Over time, I transitioned to Senior EHR Technician on the Technical team and now into my current role as a Software Engineer on our Products team.

What is the one thing you hope to do in the role?

Although I have less direct client interaction now in my current role, I have always focused on client satisfaction. I want to ensure that I help make Galen stand out from the crowd with our excellent support and communication. For me, it is not about completing a particular project for a client; it is about gaining a trusted client and partner for both the current project and future projects.

What’s kept you at Galen for the past 5 years?

I have had great managers over the past five years, something that I hadn’t been fortunate to have at times in the past. I am an independent worker, and my managers appreciate and value that. They give me the room I need to make decisions but also check in regularly and are always eager to assist.

Are there any awesome moments that stick out to you over that time?

Completing my first TouchWorks upgrade was certainly an exciting experience for me. It was an 11.2.0 upgrade, probably from 11.1.7. As an Upgrade Technician, there was a lot of information to keep track of, and the go-live weekend was a long-haul. It was rewarding to complete the weekend successfully and deliver a great result to our client.

What’s one thing that not a lot of people know about Galen that they should?

Galen delivers dynamic solutions to client’s problems. At Galen, we have so many talented people that we are able to address concerns with almost any aspect of the products we work with. In addition, we develop our own products to help fill gaps in current offerings or to touch on a completely new area.
