One theme that we’re consistently seeing in the ever-changing healthcare IT arena is consolidation. After the rush to adopt EHRs for successful Meaningful Use attestations, the HIT landscape was littered with MU1-certified EHRs. As the initiative evolved to focus on improved outcomes and interoperability, the requirements grew stricter and the number of MU-certified EHRs plummeted. This trend, coupled with a high rate of acquisitions, has sparked a need for EHR data conversions and new implementations. Recently, a Galen team assisted Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, GA, converting ambulatory records from disparate applications to MEDITECH’s Medical and Practice Management (MPM) ambulatory system, and implementing MPM at more than 10 Meadows Regional clinics. The conversions and implementations enabled Meadows to leverage the integration between MEDITECH MPM and the MEDITECH acute care system, which streamlined the electronic workflow for providers, and ultimately improved the continuity of care for all patients in the health system.
